Act Pointes – 3D Printed Pointe Shoes (the way of the future)
All I can say right off the bat that it is about time that someone decided to take matters into their own hands to a develop a pointe shoe that is cutting edge! I personally feel like everything on this earth develops and improves to arguably make things better. BUT it seems as though ballet has remained stagnant in terms of the offerings of pointe shoes etc since the inception of this glorious art form. Don’t get me wrong I am a purist and love things to be as they always were when it comes to tradition particularly when it comes to ballet, but I am here for something that is refreshed and putting the modern ballet dancer first.
Do you remember the full sole ballet shoes? Well, if you did ballet as a youngen in the 80s and 90s then you most certainly would remember those awful, unflattering ballet shoes that made it look as though a point was a “unicorn” and the only point ballet dancers could offer is something that would resemble a dead fish hanging at the end of their legs! You may think that I am exaggerating, but in truth I am not! When split sole ballet pumps were introduced, we were told by our teachers that they are not allowed at class, because they would make our feet lazy… which I suppose I can agree with to a certain extent, or can I? Actually, allow me to give an example of that statement being false… many professional dancers have had their training with split sole ballet pumps and do their feet look weak or lazy? I think not!
So, my point in saying all of this is to drive home the fact that it was time for something to be improved on in pointe shoes. I acknowledge the fact that Gaynor Minden really made a huge improvement in terms of the materials that are used to make pointe shoes as well as giving them the added benefit of lasting longer than regular pointe shoes, which is something the ballet world needed… and boy do I love my Gaynors! Act’ble, the “new kid” on the block has gone a few steps further by now introducing to the world the first ever 3D printed pointe shoes which are almost 100% customizable and last even longer!… In this video I unbox my very first pair of Act Pointe, build them, try them on and even try dancing in them for the first time… I did this all so that hopefully it could help you make a decision on whether you want to invest in a pair or not.
